AFA Art House, Calgary AB

Montageries explored how a selection of 19 artworks drawn from the Alberta Foundation for the Arts' collection of nearly 10,000 objects could tell a much larger story of the province of Alberta.

 

With the words "montage" and "memories" blended into a new and curious exhibition title, ​each of the artworks included were created by uniting varied components. Multi-layered and complex, the works included in Montageries are flashes of memories and times past.

A Breath Beyond was curated as an inaugural opening exhibition for Inspire, a brand-new public space in Airdrie to host the city's library and rentable spaces for community and culture.

 

Artists were encouraged to respond to the prompt: "much like the act of taking breath, art has the power to ground us, to invigorate and to expand our horizons and future-thinking."

Works in The Shape of Change exhibition were selected curatorially alongside a community selection committee through the following prompt:

“Like the act of unfolding, change reveals a pattern, a geometry or choreography of being and learning that is only just beginning to be understood. It is not static, but fluid – moving through time, space and form in ways that are often mysterious.”

Featuring artworks that loop back to their aesthetic innovations and run parallel to their enduring impact – this exhibition celebrated contemporary artists whose work shares kinship with Katie Ohe & Harry Kiyooka’s post-modern abstraction and playful use of form and gesture. The special exhibition was put on as part of the Kiyooka Ohe Art Centre's 2025 Fall Gala and Fundraiser Auction.
